Students built “insect hotels” in Zlatna Panega Eco Park

22.10.2025

More than 20 students and teachers from Primary School "Hristo Botev" in the village of Rumyantsevo and Primary School "Vasil Levski" in the village of Oreshene took part in the initiative

TITAN Zlatna Panega hosted an eco-educational event dedicated to the protection of wild pollinators on October 22 at the Zlatna Panega Eco Park. More than 20 students and teachers from "Hristo Botev" Primary School in the village of Rumyantsevo and "Vasil Levski" Primary School in the village of Oreshene joined the initiative.

Together, they turned the day into a true celebration of nature and created new "homes" for some of the most important creatures on the planet – insect pollinators.

Small houses with a big mission

The main idea of the initiative was for the children to learn more about the role of pollinators and to help them survive the cold winter days. Together, the students built a total of four cozy and beautiful "insect hotels," two of which will remain in Zlatna Panega Eco Park, ready to welcome their first guests.

Participants used breathable and natural materials, such as bricks with holes, straw, and tree bark, which provide protection and a natural habitat for insects. Two of the built structures were taken to the schools along with part of the materials used so they could continue to serve as an educational example.

The future of biodiversity begins with education

During the event, the students gained a deeper understanding of the ecological importance of pollinators and the role of industry in preserving biodiversity. They learned that without their pollination, much of the food we consume would not exist. In Europe today, over 10% of bee populations are threatened with extinction, primarily due to climate change, pesticide use, and the loss of natural habitats.

"The cement industry has the unique opportunity to support pollinators. Through the rehabilitation of our quarries, we create favorable habitats both for pollinators and for other species of the local flora and fauna.”," shared Ivanina Chulkova from TITAN Zlatna Panega.

"Bees are small, but without them life on Earth would be impossible," said Harry Antonov, a student at Primary School “Hristo Botev” in the village of Rumyantzevo.

"The children had fun, but also learned something important – that even the smallest actions matter. For them, this wasn’t just a biology lesson at school. Still, a lesson in care and respect for the Earth," shared Evgeniya Georgieva, a teacher at Primary School “Hrissto Botev” in the village of Rumyantzevo.

With the "Insect Hotels" initiative, TITAN Zlatna Panega encourages care for natural diversity and raises awareness among young people about the vital role of pollinators in the ecosystem.

The constructed structures are a symbol of a sustainable way of life and respect for the world around us.

The project is part of the company’s long-term effort to preserve and enrich local ecosystems while also supporting education, engaging young people, and developing communities in the region.
