TITAN Zlatna Panega Continues Its Commitment to Biodiversity – 5,000 Balkan Trout Released into the Zlatna Panega River

On May 8, 2025, TITAN Zlatna Panega continued its long-standing initiative to support biodiversity in the area where it operates.
A total of 5,000 juvenile Balkan trout (Salmo trutta fario) were released into the Zlatna Panega River near the town of Lukovit. The initiative is part of TITAN Zlatna Panega’s long-term program for preserving ecological diversity and restoring the population of one of the most valuable and endangered river species in Bulgaria.

As a complementary activity to this event, the Environmental Protection team at TITAN Zlatna Panega, together with students from fifth to seventh grade from the school in the village of Zlatna Panega, visited the Zlatna Panega eco-trail. There, the children learned about the importance of preserving river ecosystems, sustainable fishing practices, and other interesting facts about the region’s flora and fauna.

The company deliberately involves children from various communities in its initiatives, fostering environmental awareness and responsibility from an early age. Specialists emphasized the prevention of harmful practices such as water pollution and illegal fishing using electric currents or nets. Giving children the opportunity to participate in such activities instills a sense of involvement and care for nature.

Protection of Local Species

The Balkan trout is a threatened native species whose population has been declining due to pressure from invasive foreign species such as the American trout. The initiative by TITAN Zlatna Panega involves only native species, under strict compliance with the regulatory framework. Fish stocking is a process repeated over the years, as some of the released fish do not survive or fall within the scope of legal fishing. Regular population renewal is essential for the long-term ecological balance of the river.

Comprehensive Environmental Program
The fish release is only one part of TITAN Zlatna Panega’s broader strategy for sustainable development. The company regularly organizes campaigns focused on biodiversity conservation and educational activities. On the plant’s grounds, a tree nursery has been established where children plant acorns they collect themselves. The grown saplings are later used for quarry reclamation – an example of a closed ecological cycle and a conscious approach to nature.

Environmental protection and biodiversity conservation are strategic priorities for TITAN Zlatna Panega. The company demonstrates that local businesses can be drivers of positive change by setting examples in environmental stewardship. Through a variety of initiatives, TITAN Zlatna Panega nurtures care, respect, and responsibility for nature and the surrounding environment in children.
