For a fourth consecutive year, TITAN Zlatna Panega supported the initiative of “Teach for Bulgaria” in the village of Brestnitza – Summer START Academy. The academy took place between the 7th and the 25th of July and 35 students from Primary school “Hristo Botev” joined the initiative in the village of Brestnitza.

In this year’s edition of the joint initiative between TITAN Zlatna Panega and “Teach for Bulgaria”, the students had the opportunity to expand and improve their knowledge in Bulgarian language and literature, and mathematics. The variety of activities gave the kids a chance to practice their communicative, group, and individual skills. Similarly to all previous editions of the academy, everything is completely free of charge for the students and their parents.

The teachers from the academy aimed to familiarize the students with interesting professions, and this year’s focus were two specific ones – hotel and restaurant management. Inspired and curious, the kids dived right into the summer adventures, which started on the very first day of the Academy. The kids were divided into four groups and each group had to represent a different part of a hotel. The kids, led by their teachers, talked about what the work looks like at the reception, in the restaurant, the kitchen, as well as what a hotel room usually requires having and how they, the housekeepers, should take care of them. With the help of the guest-lecturers, the students learned the functions of the different sectors in both restaurants and hotels, as well as how to ensure the customers’ pleasant experience.

Amongst the most exciting activities for the students was their visit to the professional kitchen in the cafeteria of TITAN Zlatna Panega’s factory. During the workshop, the talented children had the pleasure of discovering their own culinary creativity. Amongst the delicacies, prepared by the cooking beginners were savoury pancakes, bruschettas with jamon and yellow cheese, sandwiches with cream cheese, and desserts with chia seeds and biscuits. Their efforts did not go unnoticed by the employees who were genuinely in awe of their skills.

Biliana Milanova, one of the organizers of the annual initiative, also proudly stated the children’s achievements: “This year, 35 students successfully graduated from START Academy in Brestnitza with the help of six teachers and teaching assistants. Besides filling in the gaps in reading, writing and mathematics, the kids dived into the professional intricacies of hotel and restaurant management, thanks to our visits to the cafeteria in TITAN Zlatna Panega and hotel Diplomat Plaza in the town of Lukovit.”

The goal of the annual joint project is not only to stimulate the children’s interest in standard learning subjects, but to also give them a perspective for the future. In previous editions of the academy, TITAN Zlatna Panega and the children got to meet professionals with expertise in various areas, some of which are firefighters, policemen, doctors, etc.

The team of TITAN Zlatna Panega firmly believes the development of children and young people from every part of the country should be encouraged, and that it paves the way for a brighter future, not just for the children, but also for the world around them.
