The Company Inspires Local Students with an Educational Initiative on Water Resource Conservation

In connection with Earth Day – April 22, for the second consecutive year, TITAN Zlatna Panega organized an educational event at the Wastewater Treatment Plant (WWTP) in the town of Yablanitsa titled “Water We Cannot Live Without! Water Purification.” The training focused on water as a vital natural resource and its value, the primary sources of pollution, and modern purification methods. The initiative combined useful information with hands-on activities to inspire students to take a more responsible approach towards nature.

Science Through Experiments and Experience

The initiative was made possible by the team from the “Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection” department at TITAN Zlatna Panega, supported by the Мanager of WWTP Yablanitsa. It involved two fifth-grade classes from “Vasil Levski” Secondary School in Yablanitsa and third-grade students from “Hristo Botev” Primary School in Brestnitsa.

The topic was presented age-appropriately - older students explored more specialized issues, including chemical reactions, while younger students learned through accessible explanations, visual aids, and fun demonstrations. TITAN Zlatna Panega experts emphasized how human activities pollute water resources and how we can help protect them through mindful consumption and everyday habits.

The event included two interactive experiments showing how pollutants spread in water environments and how the purification process works. Using potassium permanganate and surfactants, specialists demonstrated how harmful substances enter water systems and how they can be removed. Students toured the WWTP facilities, including the grates, biopools, settlers, and other elements of the technological process.

Water Purification – A Technological Process with an Environmental Mission

“The technological purification process involves several stages. First, water passes through grates, sand traps, and settlers during the mechanical stage, where larger pollutants are removed. It is followed by biological treatment. The resulting sludge is treated through drying and can be used as biofuel or in agriculture. The final stage includes water disinfection using chlorine-based products, ozone, or ultraviolet light to eliminate pathogenic microorganisms. At the end of the process, the water is safe to return to nature,” shared Ekaterina Shilegarska, Sustainable Development and Environmental Protection Manager at TITAN Zlatna Panega.

The company enforces strict water protection measures at the plant site and operates two treatment stations—one for domestic water and one for industrial water wastewater.

Inspiration for a More Conscious Future

This year, the event coincided with World Book and Copyright Day. TITAN Zlatna Panega encouraged reading by giving books to all students, with selections from contemporary and classic literature. TITAN Zlatna Panega’s educational initiatives focused on water conservation demonstrate the company’s commitment to sustainable development and youth education. Through practical demonstrations and interactive lessons, students gain valuable knowledge about the environment and the need to protect it. These efforts enhance the educational experience and build environmental awareness among young people, which is essential for the future of our planet.
